Cal Fussman (Big Questions podcast) interviews Simon Sinek about his latest book The Infinite Game. What is so great about this interview is that Sinek gives us a personal glimpse into his own process and rhythm for writing each of his books — and how it was different each time. Including “taking flights to nowhere” and “hiring a babysitter” for himself. This part starts at minute 33.
A big take away is finding your own groove for your creative work and recognize that you do grow and change so your process needs to keep changing. “Uncertainty is an opportunity.” This is about minute 53.
He also shares why he is very picky about his bio — that he doesn’t want to be defined by what he does but by who he is (“Unshakeable Optimist”). This part starts at minute 57.
I love how Sinek talks about being over doing, and what I refer to as vocation over job or career. It’s the longevity and transferability and satisfaction that comes by getting this part right. “Too many of us define our value by our job.” Identity is too tied to our job / career which leads to a crisis of identity.
This interview is awesome on so many levels.
I also highly recommend Sinek’s Ted Talk “Start With Why” that has over 6 million views. When I work with people on creating their Rhythm of Life & Leadership, I always have them focus on naming their why. Sinek has a lot of great content out there.
