Abbie’s Experience of the Rhythm of Life Creation Process
Creating a Rhythm of Life & Leadership is something that is unique to everyone. While there is a specific framework and reflections / practices that everyone works through – the impact and experience of the journey is always different. Abbie went through the 8 Weeks of Coaching and Rhythm Creation Process. Here is her experience in her own words. I love that she is willing to share with all of you!
Rhythm of Life
I decided to do some “Rhythm of Life” work with Allison because of the season of life I had found myself in. I had just come out of a half a year discerning process that led me to quitting my job. Along the way I came to realize how attached my identity was to this career I had been in for 4 years since college. I also realized that the decision took so long partly because I did not have space to reflect and discern or even knowledge of how to discern. This season felt like a lot of pruning was happening and stripping away of things in my life and I wanted to be intentional with my re-building. I wanted to be rooted in some new healthy rhythms. My time with Allison helped me to approach life with a rhythm of self awareness, reflection and then forward action. This replaces a former cycle of goal setting, failing, self-anger and quitting or just a paralysis. In this new way of processing I realized how much of my decisions were made by default instead of with intention.
Each week had a theme and attached to that a menu of related practices. I learned both through success and struggle and the weekly meetings with Allison were essential to talking through both of those. In that time she also provided her own experiences of success and struggle with these practices in a way that was very encouraging and sometimes took the abstract and made it more concrete.
I see my work with Allison not as a one time experience or reset but in fact as a compilation of practices I either incorporate daily into life or return to in relevant seasons. They are a framework to bring about change and action in my life from a stance of self awareness and acceptance instead of self criticism or default.
